Ibiza

Rome was a great cultural experience, but now its time to have some fun. Next up for our first week off trip was Ibiza. I am sure that no one really knows of this place and the people that do only know of it because of the famous song “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” (a song we listened to multiple times and partook in its philosophy). Having already spent half of my checking account, I needed to be very cautious of my spending. That means having flights which leave at 6am, with the airport being an hour away. So the start of Ibiza was not as luxurious as one would hope for, but Eric, Shane, and I were ready to have ourselves a day.

When we landed in Ibiza, the first stop had to be food. Sidenote: On average I eat about 5 meals a day so food is crucial, yet quite the struggle to find at a fair price when studying abroad. After a full stomach, we headed over to our friend’s (Andrea and Katie) Airbnb. To our pleasure, their Airbnb was right on the water with an infinity pool adjacent to the beach. We had our about an hour of relaxation in the pool until it started raining. The whole day was pretty gloomy so we pretty much stayed inside. I was content though, we ate ice cream and watched Avatar the Last Airbender for 4 hours. This was a childhood favorite that for some reason we all wanted to watch. It cleared up, so for dinner we ate at a waterfront restaurant. A perk of being on an island in the Mediterranian, you have access to some damn good seafood.

Now that the foods digested, its time to party. At Lollapolloza our favorite set was Armin Van Burren. Turns out his last show was the night we got to Ibiza. The second we found out we bought tickets. The club was about a 20-minute walk down the main strip. This strip had no rules. There were stripper poles on sidewalks, hammered 50-year-olds stumbling around at 9pm, and a plethora of dealers selling stuff on the streets. This was a Disneyland for adults that want to party. The club stood out once we turned a corner with a massive sign, “Hi Club.” After doing some research, to our satisfaction, this is the 5th best club in the world. The club was lit up with tiki lights, a slide from the 2nd to the 1st floor, a DJ in the bathroom, and two gigantic party rooms. It was easiest the best clubbing experience I’ve ever had.

The next morning was a struggle, but I was excited about the planned activities. We booked an ATV tour through the island, mainly the less tourist-heavy part. There was so much more of the Island that we got to see because of the tour. We stayed on the main road for about 10 minutes then it was straight to the beaten path. The tour stopped us three times. The first was to overlook the highest bluff of the mountain. It was easily 100 feet high, incredible views of the crystal clear water. The second was to a smaller cliff on the water.  Me, Eric, and Shane saw this as an opportune time to cliff jump, something I have never done before. Like most things on this trip, we said “**c* it lets go.” It was the 40ft drop that landed us in the Medditeranain’s refreshing water. Jumping in was such a rush, but even more, adrenaline was pumped out because of the jellyfish infested waters. I have a bum leg and shoulder, so this was my worst nightmare, lost at sea to the Jellies. I slightly got stung but Eric got lit up, having had the full jellyfish latch itself on to him. Luckily we made it back in, almost one piece. Unfortunately, my apple watch is now sitting at the bottom of the sea. It for sure put a damper on my day. The last stip was to a gelato shop which across the street was a nude beach. Europeans are a very revealing people.

All said and done, we went back to the hostel. The last two days took a lot of energy out of me. I can’t say I have the stamina I once had. I am only 20, *shakes my head*. We still had Mardird to fly off to the next morning, so chilling by the pool at the hostel was our best bet. I won’t complain it was a solid couple of days.
