The Adventure Starts

It was an overly humid day at Dulles regional airport. I was very excited to see all my friends and meet new people aborad as well as those on the trip. I had just finished my internship in New York City and could not wait for my endeavor abroad.  The idea of an 8-hour flight did not seem fun, but once through security, we were greeted at the plane with flight attendants that told us the flight entailed unlimited free drinks. The, what should have been a dreaded flight, became a great passing time that really bonded the 40  of us on this trip. Once in London, it was another 3-hour flight to Prague. After a long day of travel, the bus from the airport dropped me and my 3 roommates outside a very sketchy park. We walked up a monumental hill to get outside our apartment (if my calves aren’t shredded by the end of the trip I will be very upset). It’s crazy to think that for the next four months, Chill Hill Apartments on Kràsova St. will be my home.

The first weekend here we got thrown right into the city. I mean that quite literally. With no data or service, we had to go on a scavenger hunt through the Prague city center. It was very odd getting dropped in a completely different environment, but the unknowing increased my curiosity and want to learn what Prague really has to offer. After the weekend that seemed like 2 weeks long, it was time to start school. This program by far has the best-structured school to travel ratio. I already have 8-weekend trips planned as well as a Rome to Ibiza to Madrid trip on deck for the first full week off.

The first week somehow felt like an eternity, so the weekend off was a necessity.  A good portion of the group got together to explore Prague, as well as the local pubs to grab some 70 cent beer.

I can’t get over how back home I would spend the weekend lifting weights and hanging out with friends, in a basement, playing fortnight. Now I am halfway across the globe in central Europe exploring a once communist country filled with history and adventure. In my said adventure that weekend, I stumbled upon the Apple Musem. This was a shock to me because Steve Jobs, to my knowledge, had no correlation with the Czech Republic. It turns out the museum was built by a collector that obtained every iPhone, iPod, Mac, and other Apple products since its inception.

When gallivanting through a new city, it is customary to walk aimlessly in the hopes of finding something or someone of interest. When participating in this said stroll through a city, one must take in all the new sites. The most riveting aspect for the city of Prague is its architecture. Some of the buildings are so unique and make Prague very intriguing to walk about and explore. The landmarks that stood out to me were the Charles Bridge, the surprisingly many castles, and the historic old town.

It was wild to think that just two weeks ago I was working near wall street, last week I was home hanging out in Rhode Island, and now I get to learn the international business while backpacking through Europe.

One week under the belt, fourteen to go, and a once in a lifetime memory to create. Going to be a hell of a time, so lets ride.
